Sujit Choudhry has given such good advice to other countries throughout his time in office about how to become a democracy. He actually works for the Canadian government in which he goes into countries that used to be dictatorships to teach them how to live a peaceful life and transition into freedom. It can be difficult when a country is used to dealing with military control and with a lack of rights before freedom comes through. That is why Choudhry believes it was his purpose to write a book for others to use how they see fit called “Security Sector Reform in Constitutional Transitions.”
One of the first areas that require reform when a country decides to become a democracy according to Sujit Choudhry is the way they handle security Many countries would handle security through force by the military or by the police, which led to high levels of conflict throughout. It is important that police are only used to protect the citizens of the country while the military is only used to protect the country as a whole. The book has helped countries in realizing this for over two years, as the purchase date was within September of 2019.
Sujit Choudhry would have been unable to write this book alone, though he is the head of constitutional transitions in the entire country of Canada. He received the help of a professor of government affairs that is based out of America whose name is Zolton Barry to start the editing process. He also worked with someone who works for International IDEA which is an agency not associated with the government that helps in the growth of democracy. Finally, he worked with a law professor who was able to provide editing remarks concerning the legality of some of the factual information presented.
