Pamela Baer’s Work to Support Underserved Communities With Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital

Pamela Baer is a lifetime director at the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital Foundation. The foundation focuses on bringing healthcare to underserved communities. Immigrants, minorities, and the homeless are groups targeted by their efforts. Since the beginning of the COVID 19 pandemic, demand for the foundation’s services has increased. During this time, the organization has focused on the effects of socioeconomic status on a person’s health.

Pam Baer recently referenced the mental health crisis growing alongside the pandemic. She stated that both issues were keeping the foundation busy. In 2021 the foundation recommitted itself to providing healthcare and innovations for underserved communities. They have also launched a new mental health initiative named Transform Mental & Behavioral Health Fund. This new fund has raised $5 million dollars. This new fund provides leadership and support to various mental health programs.

The SFGH Foundation also started the Acute Care Team and the Telecare Team. Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital Foundation is also providing the only round-the-clock Psychiatric Emergency Service in San Francisco. This service handles upwards of 8,000 patients per year.

The foundation’s main services are funded with public monies, but board members also donate. Pamela Baer initially joined in 2002 as a board member and served for 16 years. After her resignation, the foundation made Baer a lifetime director. With the help of Baer and others, the foundation has been able to raise $17 million so far.

Before becoming involved in philanthropy, Pamela Baer owned a direct marketing business.

She later married San Francisco Giants’ CEO Larry Baer and moved to San Francisco. After selling her business Baer committed attention entirely to philanthropy. In addition to her work with the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital Foundation, she is also involved in numerous other charities. These include Nest, Every Mother Counts, and many others.
